Joseph F. Morrissey, age 73, of West Haven, beloved husband of Barbara (Rieger) Morrissey, passed away on May 21, 2018. Born in New Haven on April 20, 1945, he was the son of the late Vincent R. and Mary (Reardon) Morrissey. Joe was a graduate of Notre Dame High School Class of 1963 and attended the University of New Haven. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and worked at S.N.E.T for many years. After retirement, at age 49, Joe lived his life to the fullest. He loved working at Morse Park and bartending for over twenty years at both Johnny’s Grille and Brian’s Place in West Haven. Joe played cards with his pals every Saturday, enjoyed his scratch-off lottery tickets, loved to travel, was an avid fan of Notre Dame Football and was particularly fond of the Notre Dame Fight Song.
Along with his wife Barbara, Joe is survived by his children Michele Morrissey, Kevin (Lauren) Morrissey, step-son, Steven (Carrie) Gettings, grandchildren, Ashley, Kevin, Reese, Dillon Morrissey, and Evan Gettings, and siblings, Vincent (Joan), Brian (Mimi), James (Tracy), and Patricia Morrissey, as well as several nieces and nephews, and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Kevin Morrissey, and his sister Mary Ann. Joe’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the Smilow Team, a special thanks to Dr. Anne Chiang and Nurse Christine Drew, for all their kindness and compassion.
Visitation hours will be held on Friday evening from 4 to 7 pm and Saturday morning from 9 to 11 am at the West Haven Funeral Home at the Green. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 11 am on Saturday for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated in Saint Lawrence Church at 11:30 am. Interment will be private.
